The history of the Athenian Paper Industry, known as Softex, the most powerful brand in the paper market, is consistent with the history of post-war Greece.
THE HISTORY OF SOFTEX
The Foundation of Softex brings us back in 1936 during which Kefala family began its operation. Its course has been rising from the outset increasing paper production from 1,250 tons in 1950 to 59,000 tons in 1968. By 1974 Softex paper was in more than half of the households in Greece. In 1984 the company was nationalized and in 1999 it was sold to the Italian Bolton Group. In 2016 the brand name Softex was bought by Intertrade Hellas SA, one of the largest paper converting companies in Greece. Intertrade, with its Acharnes factories and its presence in the domestic market for the past 24 years, has been producing household and professional paper and paper towels, exporting to 23 countries and employing more than 120 employees.
A new company was established called SOFTEX under the umbrella of mother company Intertrade reinvigorating the historical brand and redefining its leading position in the Greek market.
